My passion has always been my business: Healing my family through diet and nutrition, and serving others who have similar needs. When I started my food blog in 2008 there wasn’t anything we could buy in the store. I created one of the first websites and cookbooks ever to bake with coconut flour and almond flour. I created one of the first websites and cookbooks ever to teach people how to make almond and cashew milk, and cashew and coconut yogurt and ice cream. I was a pioneer

Without the means to start my own product line, I relied on blog traffic and cookbook sales to pay my bills. However, in the last few years I reached a point where there was no longer a great need for my recipes. The products I longed to create became a reality, produced by someone else. Store-bought cashew and coconut milk ice creams and yogurt emerged. After Easy Paleo Meals was published Bob’s Red Mill came out with a mix that is identical the one in my book. What can ya do? You can’t copyright recipes.

I’m happy for all this progress, that you can now find frozen food, prepared food, and packaged food like the ones in my cookbooks and on my blog. I would be lying if I said I didn’t use them myself. But it left me having to find a new career in order to support my family. I didn’t know what that career would be.

Then almost 2 years ago my Naturopath recommended hemp (CBD) oil for my severe panic attacks. I enrolled as an affiliate to get a package of oil with free bottles. She suggested that I take the oil every day as it has a cumulative effect. Two weeks later I realized that I could stand for longer than I had been able to previously. At the time I was selling allergen-free cookie kits, and I had been having so much back pain that Andrew had been helping me fill the dozens of orders every month. When handfuls of Curcumin didn’t work I even tried taking Motrin, lots and lots of Motrin, but nothing worked. After two weeks of taking the hemp oil I no longer had any back pain. I could stand on my feet working for hours every day. Whoa.

Next I tested the oil out on my panic attacks, which are triggered during takeoff and landing when I fly. I had tried everything else, even pharmaceuticals, and I decided that I had HAD it. If the oil didn’t work then I would literally rent a car and drive home. It wasn’t worth the misery.

Since then we have successfully used the oil for Ginger’s inflammation and anxiety attacks, as well as my occasional headaches, and general wellness. Hemp oil increases the absorption of nutrients and aids in detoxification, so it’s something everyone should be taking daily.

This past December the Farm Bill passed, and I decided to really commit to making this my business. I read Get Over Your Damn Self, and it taught me everything I needed to know, answered every concern I had, and inspired me beyond measure. Within my first two months I earned enough to pay my mortgage. Then my affiliates started getting affiliates, and lately it’s as if I’m getting paid while I’m sleeping or taking a day off. That’s the beauty of residual rewards.

I’m building a badass business, and following my passion and commitment to serve others. As Romi says, “It’s not easy, but it is simple.” With dedication and perseverance this business is taking off, and I feel like I’ve been given a whole new chance I really couldn’t have done it without the Naturopath that is my mentor, and the book Get Over Your Damn Self, which I listened to in the bathtub, in the car, and on my walks.
